Advocacy Consultant for LICADHO’s Phnom Penh office
The Cambodian League for the Promotion and Defense of Human Rights (LICADHO) is a non-governmental, non-profit and non-political human rights organization established in July 1992. With a central office and four regional offices, LICADHO aims to promote human rights and the rule of law.
LICADHO is seeking a highly qualified candidate to fill the position of Advocacy Consultant for LICADHO’s Phnom Penh office. The purpose of the position is to provide technical support and assistance to the Advocacy and Documentation Offices. The Consultant is expected to organise and produce advocacy materials and reports, take the lead in drafting and editing English-language communications, assist and encourage other LICADHO offices to develop advocacy materials for publication, and to improve the long-term advocacy strategies and relevant systems of the organisation.
Work Responsibilities
- Closely monitor and document major events and human rights violations to develop and produce LICADHO’s advocacy materials and strategies.
- Work with other LICADHO offices to organise advocacy plans for the year and collaborate with internal teams to produce and publish advocacy content.
- Assist in the drafting and editing of annual reports and external communications, including statements, briefing papers, articles, and audio-visual content.
- Maintain up-to-date information and content on LICADHO’s website and social media pages, ensuring prompt publication of content to increase the reach of the organisation’s advocacy objectives.
- Provide information to the media, as required, and assist senior staff to respond to press queries and interviews.
- Develop and implement long term advocacy strategies for LICADHO, with the goal of increasing local and international awareness of the human rights situation and specific issues in Cambodia.
Qualifications
- University graduate degree in relevant fields.
- Native-level fluency in English; knowledge of Khmer would also be a major asset.
- At least 3 years minimum working experience working in the fields of journalism, communication and/or law.
- Ability to identify and collaborate with colleagues to produce content or campaigns about ongoing human rights abuses and other major events.
- Must have strong writing skills, preferably of a journalistic style; ability to write quickly and accurately under tight deadlines; meticulous ability to edit produced content.
- Self starter that can work with minimum supervision, while also liaising and assisting a Cambodian-led management and team.
- Excellent oral communication skills, including experience dealing with media, NGOs, international institutions, United Nations agencies and grassroots communities.
- Experience in production of social media, video and/or audio content preferred; knowledge of photography, graphic design and page design would be an additional asset.
- Hardworking, honest with strong research, documentation and analytical skills and experience.
